HANDLING OF PASSENGER TRAFFIC
A PROFESSIONAL ERVICE THAT HAS COME FAR
The Genoa Harbour, given its natural location and history, has had and still retains a primary role
in the handling of passenger traffic.
Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. has established itself as a state-of-the-art terminal operator
in the Mediterranean, having equipped itself, before other seaports, with the necessary infrastructures
and solutions needed to meet the changing demands of the cruise operators
for increasing comfort and security.
As with the cruise ship market, Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. was able to identify ahead of other operators
the changes taking place in the transport of ferry passengers.
The need to reduce travel time with the ferry lines, the growth in tourist movement
and the consequent continuing increase in the size and quality of the line ships, which have to follow
the changing requests of the market, has led and is still leading to notable changes and improvements
in the areas and infrastructures devoted to ferry traffic.
Since the early nineties, Stazioni Marittime S.p.A., along with the Genoa Port Authority,
has radically redesigned the shape of the docks and the internal road network.
Consistent investments has made it possible to enlarge the boarding areas,
to render more functional the internal road system and to equip the passenger area
with three comfortable and modern terminals.
These are principally dedicated to ferry traffic, completely computerising all embarkation check-in procedures
and have, at the same time, brought up-to-date the increasingly broad and complex safety regulations.
The significant investments made in the quality and modernisation of infrastructures and services,
coupled with the dynamism which has always characterized the management of our company,
and combined with the progressive growth of our markets, have enabled the Genoa Passenger Harbour
to register traffic figures that are among the highest in the Mediterranean.
ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE PORT OF GENOA
Thanks to its geographical position, the Port of Genoa occupies a strategic position
in the Mediterranean basin, representing a natural gateway to the sea for many European countries.
This makes the Port of Genoa is an important port of arrival and departure for several cruise routes.
Direct cruises sail from the passenger area run by Stazioni Marittime S.p.A.
to major destinations of historical, cultural and visitor interest, stopping at Middle Eastern,
North African, Mediterranean and Atlantic ports.
Genoa is also a point of departure and arrival for cruises to northern Europe and transatlantic cruises
to the Americas.
The Port of Genoa benefits from its favourable position for ferry traffic as well as for cruise traffic.
Numerous ferry services operate all year round from the Stazioni Marittime S.p.A. terminal
to Sardinia, Sicily, Corsica, North Africa and Spain.
The logistic position of the passenger area is also particularly favourable, linked among other things directly
to the motorway junction; it is 2 km from Genoa international airport and 500 metres
from the railway station.
In the immediate vicinity are stops on the underground and for buses to the city centre,
which is just a few hundred metres from the Ponte dei Mille Stazione Marittima.
